Race Day Format

The race day will be organised around open qualifying, scrutineering and a final Top 12 Showdown.

Teams will be assigned to one of the competition tracks at the start of the day. Where possible, teams from the same school will be placed on different tracks.

All three track layouts will be set up to be as identical as possible to help maintain fairness.

During qualifying, teams will initially compete only against the other teams allocated to their own track. This means each track will produce its own qualifying results before the Top 12 Showdown.

Qualifying will run as an open qualifying system, managed by the track marshal. Each track will have a published race order displayed next to it. Teams should follow this order and be ready when called.

Each team will have the opportunity to complete up to three qualifying runs, subject to the event timetable and marshal control.

For each qualifying run:

  • teams will complete a 20-lap race

  • each run will include 3 driver changes

  • all team members must take part in the race

  • each team member must complete at least 3 laps

  • teams with fewer than four members may double up on drivers

  • driver changes must take place in the pit area

  • a 2-second penalty will be added for each driver change made outside the pit area

  • the time for each valid run will be recorded

  • each team’s best valid qualifying time will be used for ranking on their assigned track

Teams must wait their turn during each qualifying session. A team may not take another run until all teams on that track have had the opportunity to complete their run.

If a team has a reliability issue, the track marshal may allow the team to stop, repair and rejoin later where time allows. This will be managed at the discretion of the track marshal to keep the event fair and running on time.

After qualifying, the top 4 teams from each track will qualify for the Top 12 Showdown.

Top 12 Showdown:

  • 12 teams will compete in total

  • the top 4 teams from each track will qualify

  • each finalist team will complete one 10-lap race

  • teams should select their best driver for the showdown

  • teams will race one at a time

  • the fastest recorded 10-lap time will decide the final positions

Final race details may be adjusted depending on the number of teams attending, the venue timetable and track setup. Registered teams will receive confirmed race information before the event.
